Hiking in Los Angeles, California (May 2019)

I did these hikes during two separate trips out to LA in May, but I decided to just combine them because who only wants one hike per blog post!

Hollywood Sign via. Canyon Drive

This hike is such a classic one for the area! Its definitely a must do/see if you have a couples hours to explore in LA. This route up to The Hollywood Sign is about 5.7 miles round trip as an out & back trail. It has a total of 1,161 ft. Of elevation gain & took me about 2.5 hours to complete. If you’re not in the best of shape I could see this taking upwards of 3-4 hours because of the steady uphill climb & minimal shade. Still a great trail through & a bomb workout! Plus so cool to get that close to the Hollywood Sign. I imagine there are other trails in the area that the locals know of to get you closer, but I’m not sure how legal that is & I ain’t trying to go to jail. LOL.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

(Oh & these two pictures aren’t mine. FOR SOME REASON I DON’T HAVE ANY PICTURES FROM THIS HIKE. So annoying. Anyways, picture cred. to my favorite hiking app- AllTrails.com)

This hike is perfect if your crunched for time, plus the views are pretty cool for it being such a short hike. Don’t let it fool you though because you’re basically climbing up stairs the entire time if you choose to go the direction route. You can easily get it done in about an hour, or even choose to go up & down the steps a few times to get a good workout in! Its about 1.6 miles round trip & has 330 ft. of elevation gain.
