We’ve all been there & experienced that one person that is not aware of the “unwritten” rules inside of the gym.
I’m NOT making this blog post to poke fun at people (although there’s probably going to be someone who get’s offended... can’t win it all), but rather bring light to proper gym etiquette when it comes to using & respecting a public workout space.
Obnoxiously loud or sexual grunting. I am all for the occasional grunt in the gym when your lifting some heavier weights, but if you’re yelling or making sexual-like noises… please calm down. You’re in the gym, not the bedroom.
You sweat everywhere & don’t clean up after yourself. THIS IS SO UNSANITARY. Clean up after yo-self. I myself am a sweater, but I also wipe down equipment after I use it because that’s courteous. Nobody wants to sit down on a bench with someone else’s sweat drips on it. It takes 2 seconds, wipe it down.
You use 3 different machines or sets of weights at once. Using one or two sets of weights or machines? Okay fine, I totally get that. But if you’re using an array of equipment, don’t get offended if someone asks to work in with you. Or simply drop it down to a superset, finish up with that & move on to the next thing.
Not using deodorant. This shouldn’t even be in here but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF LIFE PUT ON DEODORANT BEFORE YOU WALK INTO THE GYM & START YOUR WORKOUT.
YOU DON’T RE-RACK YOUR WEIGHTS. *Cue eye roll at the people who think they're "too good" to put away the 10 plates they used on the leg press* This is such a pet peeve. If you racked the weights, you can un-rack them. It is extremely rude & inconsiderate to leave weights on machines because you’re too lazy to put them up yourself.
Not wearing proper closed toe shoes. No flip flops or slides when you’re working out, end of story.
Don’t hit on women in the gym. I LITERALLY CANNOT WITH THIS. THE GYM IS NOT WEHRE YOU PICK UP WOMEN. Leave her alone to get in her workout. Theres a 99% chance she’s not here for that. & The same goes for women who go to the gym to pick up men. Let's all consider the workout space just that- the workout space.
